How Duffells helps smaller businesses access more credit and place larger orders
We spoke with Alex Pugh, Marketing Director at Duffells, about how iwocaPay is helping them give more trade customers access to credit and increase order values.
Duffells is the UK’s leading supplier of replacement door and window parts to trade businesses. Their customers range from one-person businesses to large companies. Many customers place regular orders throughout the month so having access to trade credit makes it easier manage their purchases and cash flow.
Before iwocaPay, Duffells offered credit directly to customers following its own credit checks. But some customers were either rejected or didn’t complete the long application form. That’s when Duffells introduced iwocaPay, giving customers a simpler way to access credit directly on their website.
“We were leaving potential credit customers on the shelf because they may have been rejected from our stringent checks or didn’t want to fill a long form. We wanted a solution that was easy for the customer.” – Alex Pugh, Marketing Director at Duffells
A simple way to give more customers access to trade credit
Duffells introduced iwocaPay as an additional payment option. With iwocaPay, trade customers can spread the cost of purchases over 1, 3 or 12 monthly instalments, while Duffells gets paid instantly.
The aim was simple: give more trade customers access to credit without Duffells managing the credit process itself. With a higher credit limit through iwocaPay, customers who previously spent less started placing larger orders.
“We've seen customers spend more because they've been given a large credit limit with iwocaPay. The size of the orders going through iwocaPay are larger than our average orders.”
Bigger orders without the admin and credit risk
When customers pay with iwocaPay, it handles the credit checks, so Duffells no longer needs to assess them manually. It also takes on the credit risk, so Duffells doesn't have to worry about customers not paying.
Duffells continues to offer its own in-house credit, giving existing credit customers the choice to use either payment option. More recently, customers with an outstanding credit balance have also been given the option to pay it off with iwocaPay and spread the cost over 1, 3 or 12 months.
Helping smaller businesses spend and grow
For smaller businesses, getting trade credit isn't always easy. Because iwocaPay is simple and quick to set up, Duffells can offer trade credit to more of their smaller business customers, helping them place larger orders and giving them more room to grow.
“I don’t think there’s anything else like it. I think it's important for helping smaller customers grow."
For Duffells, iwocaPay complements its existing credit offering rather than replacing it. It gives more customers another way to pay, while reducing the work and risk involved in managing credit in-house.
